Pubs and off-licenses in Polesworth have been the subject of an undercover test purchasing exercise follow complaints that under-aged youths were being sold alcohol.
Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service and Warwickshire Police’s North Warwickshire North Safer Neighbourhoods Team carried out the exercise.
Young volunteers, under the age of 18 were asked to visit a number of off-licenses and pubs in the Polesworth area and attempt to buy alcohol.
This followed complaints from member of the public that some pubs were selling alcohol to minors.
Several premises were tested and one pub did supply alcohol. The bar staff were fined and the premises was subsequently reported for the offences.

“We work with retailers to educate them on what they can do to stop the sale of alcohol to children. But, where shop owners and pubs are not taking their responsibilities seriously, we will take action.”
PC Mark Jackson added: “Thanks to the excellent teamwork of both the Trading Standards Staff & SNT team, we have managed to contribute to keeping the community safer.”
