Warwickshire County Council is encouraging people to visit their Stratford Cattle Market Development web pages at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/stratfordcattlemarket, where they can register to receive email alerts or use the tailored RSS feeds to be kept informed of progress in the area of the works they’re interested in.
Works to support the planned redevelopment of the former site of Stratford’s Cattle Market began at the end of August. Warwickshire County Council is carrying out a 30 week programme of substantial road works around the site, expected to be completed in early 2014.
The email alerts and RSS feeds are split into different categories: Alcester Road, Birmingham Road, Rail Station, Western Road, or residents can sign up to receive information about all areas of the work.
The County Council is asking people who would normally use the roads around the site to plan their travel so as to minimise any disruption to their journeys.
During the current phase of work, an alternative access to Stratford Train Station’s car park is being constructed to maintain access to the station in advance of the main works. Traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Western Road and Birmingham Road and re-surfacing works are taking place on Western Road.
Once these initial works are complete, further works to provide new access to the development site off the Alcester Road will begin this month.
There will be a new signal-controlled junction on the Alcester Road near to the existing junction with Station Road. Station Road will become a paved pedestrian thoroughfare and vehicular access to the new Stratford Train Station car park will be provided from the new junction on Alcester Road through the new development.
A new stairway will also be constructed adjacent to the existing stairs linking Alcester Road to the train station.
The dedicated webpage, www.warwickshire.gov.uk/stratfordcattlemarket, will be updated throughout the programme of works.
There are restrictions on work during peak travel times and no work will take place over the Christmas period. However, the County Council is encouraging people to plan their journeys into and around Stratford in advance to make their travel as easy as possible during the works period.
It has launched a new Choose How You Move travel website, www.warwickshire.gov.uk/travel, which enables people to plan their journeys in advance by public transport, by bike, by foot and by car.
