A fond farewell to one of County Music Service’s outstanding teachers

Suzuki Strings smallSaturday 16th May was the last time County Music Service (CMS) teacher, Julie Bradley, took a Suzuki violin workshop. She has been teaching young violinists in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth for over thirty years and directing the group for many of those years. The Suzuki parent director, Felicity Harrison, was also taught by her!

Her last Suzuki workshop showcased her work with the very youngest players in front of an audience of parents and older pupils, ending with the familiar Suzuki tune of ‘Twinkle’. Julie was presented with flowers and cards together with good wishes from all.

The photo shows Julie directing the children to develop their musical skills and do their best, which has been her aim ever since she started. She is a passionate music educator, who was judged outstanding by the Chief HMI for Music on a visit to Warwickshire.

There are over 100 young children in Warwickshire who learn the violin from a very young age using the Suzuki method through CMS, which teaches them to play the violin in the same way that they learnt to speak, with constant encouragement, listening and repetition. Parents support their child’s learning through weekly violin lessons as well as monthly workshops.
