Weeks of rehearsing came together on Friday 26 June 2015 when several of the County Music Service’s Central Area Ensembles combined to form a massed orchestra of over 100 players performing many of the pieces drawn from the BBC Ten Pieces project.
Works by Beethoven, Stravinsky, Holst, Greg, Adams and Mussorgsky echoed throughout All Saints Parish Church, Leamington to the obvious delight of a large and appreciative audience. One person said: “What an outstanding evening. Everyone was so impressed”.
There was an unique opportunity for four young members of the audience to conduct the large orchestra. Each instrumental section was illustrated by members of the orchestra. Then the young conductors put the orchestra through its paces in renditions of Pirates of the Caribbean, Themes from Harry Potter, In the Hall of the Mountain King and A night on the Bare Mountain. As one person commented “I know the evening will remain a highlight in the memories of everyone who took part for quite some time.”
A cheque was presented to the County Music Service by Cllr Clare Sawdon, former Chair of Warwick District Council, the result of monies raised as one of three Charities supported during Cllr Sawdon’s period of office. The cheque was accepted by Simon Grimshaw on behalf of CMS, on what was his last concert for the County Music Service before retiring this summer.
