Two recent County Music Service summer festival concerts brought well over 100 children together to experience some of the BBC 10 Pieces. These pieces have been edited so that large groups of young people can get together and enjoy playing the classics.
UpBeat pupils from St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary and Alveston Primary showed off their talents from their year long programme where they have been learning to play an instrument. They were joined by pupils from the Music Centre Groups including Junior Strings, Junior Windband and the new Playtastic Group. The Playtastic group is based at St Gregory’s and is for pupils in their second year of learning. Each group shared their skills individually and then came together to form a huge ensemble. One parent said: “I particularly liked the grand finale, bringing all the children together. A great show and a great performance opportunity. Thank you.”
More advanced players from secondary schools including Kineton High School, Kind Edward VI School, St. Benedict’s in Alcester, Stratford Girls Grammar School. Stratford School and Henley School joined in so that the hall rang with the sounds of Mars from the Planets, Hall of The Mountain King and Beethoven 5th Symphony. ‘It was fantastic’ said Emily, one of the players, and as the applause rang out, the audience clearly thought so too.
The fun continues in September with south Warwickshire music centre groups starting again on Saturday 12th September. Look on the website for local events, https://www.warwickshiremusichub.org/events, or ring CMS on 01926 742630.
