Firefighters from Nuneaton are inviting residents to come along and join in the fun on Saturday 5th September at their annual Fire Station’s Community and Charity Open Day.
The event, which is being run by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, will run from 10am to 4pm at Nuneaton Fire Station, Newtown Road, Nuneaton. The aim of the day is to help firefighters to raise money for The Firefighters Charity, as well as supporting other charities too.
The event is free to enter! Those attending will be able to see and take part in a wide range of activities including fairground rides, bouncy castle and slide, face painting, bungee trampolines, scuba diving with Stoney Cove, go-karts, gladiator challenge, road safety driver simulator, tombola, raffles, crafts and much, much more.
Special guests looking forward to meeting the young people attending the event are – Fireman Sam who will bearound most of the day, Peppa Pig and Frozen’s Anna and Elsa, who will also be performing throughout the day.
Firefighters will also be carrying out a road traffic accident demonstration, with west midlands ambulance crews and local community responders, to showcase the work they do to rescue people trapped following a road traffic collision. If that’s not enough, there will also be food and refreshments available on site from the BBQ (welcoming back Frank Parkers) and the café.
Courtesy of local dealership, Martin Rumble, visitors to the event will also get the opportunity to win a Vauxhall Corsa.
Talking about the event, Firefighter, Rachel Streeting said:
“The annual open day is an event that has been running for around 29 years now and it is always very well attended. We are hoping that this year will be just as successful with residents from across the county coming along and supporting us in raising funds for the Firefighters Charity and having fun too.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the local businesses who have donated raffle prizes, your support as always is greatly appreciated!”
Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Councillor John Horner said:
“This is a great way for residents to learn more about the work undertaken by the fire and rescue service and get to meet the firefighters working in their local community. I would like to thank all the firefighters involved in organising the open day. Clearly a lot of effort has been put in to make this a real community event. So please make sure that you come along and join in the fun!”
Cllr Philip Johnson, Chair of the Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, added:
“The Open Day at Nuneaton Fire Station is one of the biggest in the county. There is always a wide range of activities for residents to take part in, making it a really fun day for all of the family to enjoy. So don’t miss out, come along to Nuneaton Fire Station, meet your local firefighters, raise money for charity and of course have fun!”
All of the money raised will be going to the Fire Fighters Charity, a leading provider of rehabilitation and support services for the fire and rescue community.
Parking is limited in the area, so can we please people to me sensible about parking. Please do not park in local businesses car parks as these are for their customers only.
