Warwickshire School News: Successful GCSE Results Day at Avon Valley School

Following the release of this year’s GCSE exam results The Avon Valley School is delighted to report an excellent set of examination results for the class of 2015-2016.

The school is very pleased to announce its headline figure of 57% of students achieving A*-C in Maths and English. The school is particularly pleased with the strong mathematics results achieved this year; in addition to strong English results which were received both in March and this summer.

The Avon Valley School’s headline figure has increased significantly from last year and demonstrates the commitment, effort and aspirations shown by its students. The school’s results also buck the national trend where GCSE results have shown the biggest ever year-on-year decline.

Shannon Mahal with Alison Davies HeadteacherMany students saw excellent grades upon receiving their GCSE results, however a number of individual students achieved exceptionally high results these included:

  • Shannon Mahal – 10 A*s, 3 As and 1 B grade;
  • Roanna Pedley – 8 A*s, 4 As, 1 C grade;
  • Weronika Kowalczuk – 4 A*s, 7 As, 2 B grades;
  • Head Boy, Spondan Biswas – 3 A*s and 9 A grades; and
  • Santa Svike – 1 A*, 9 As and 2 B grades.

Alison Davies, Headteacher at Avon Valley School, said, “Our students have produced a fantastic set of results this year and I am delighted that their hard work and commitment has been so richly rewarded. As always, staff have worked extremely hard and, with the support of parents and carers, students have earned grades that will move them smoothly forward into the next stage of their education. Congratulations to all of Year 11 – you have done yourselves and Avon Valley proud!”

Many of the school’s leavers will progress on to study at local colleges or sixth forms and a number of students have been accepted on to apprenticeships.
