In October, four students from The Avon Valley School and Performing Art College will appear on stage at Rugby Theatre in their production of CS Lewis’s timeless classic The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The show, which runs for seven performances, promises spectacular special effects, stunning choreography and amazing costumes which will thrill and amuse the audience making them want to join the fight for the heart of Narnia.
The play, set in the 1940s, centres around four children, whose adventure begins when they enter a wardrobe and end up in the mystifying land of Narnia; a place where magic exists and animals can talk.
Students from The Avon Valley School include: Tom Wood and Cait Bridgman both from Year 11, Year 10 Emily Gyles, and Year 9 student Dylan Goodwin. The students meet with director Helen Dulcamara, and the other cast members, for rehearsals which take place three times per week.
Tom Wood, Year 11, said:
“This will be my first show at Rugby Theatre. Being a part of the cast has made me more confident and I am really enjoying my involvement in the show.”
Director, Helen Dulcamara, commented:
“I am thrilled to have this talented group of Avon Valley pupils in the show. Each one of them has brought their own special skills and style to the cast of 40 young people. As Tom said, his confidence has grown and grown throughout the rehearsal process and that is why I love directing young people.”
Alison Davies, Headteacher, said:
“Our curriculum and afterschool activities give all of our students the opportunity to perform, whether that be in music, dance or drama. It is wonderful to see that these four students have become involved with the local theatre and that they are looking forward to performing in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I wish them and the rest of the cast all the best.”
