Warwickshire’s Fostering Service celebrates its 12th year as a ‘Centre of Excellence’

web-hero-header-foster-withWarwickshire’s Fostering Service provides professional training and development opportunities for all of its foster carers to support them in looking after children and young people in their care.

Its Foster Care QCF Assessment Centre which offers approved foster carers the opportunity to gain a QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) diploma was recently inspected by QCF assessors who awarded it as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for the 12th consecutive year and gave it full approval to continue to offer all qualifications.

The service aims to provide courses that meet the changing needs of foster carers, legislation changes or changes within children’s services. The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce is aimed at people already working with children which includes fosters carers, care workers, child minders, early years practitioners, nursery nurses, youth and community workers etc.

The inspector found that assessment planning for all portfolios met the TAQA requirements and learners were left in no doubt as to what was required for the next assessment. Good clear advice was given by assessors to their learners and feedback was positive and encouraging for all learners.

Fostering Operations Manager, Tracy Avill from Warwickshire Fostering Service said “We are delighted that we have retained our status as ‘Centre of Excellence’ for the twelfth year running which demonstrates the continuous high level of support we offer to our foster carers.”

Cllr Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Health, said: “Our fostering service is dedicated to ensuring all foster carers have the most current training and development opportunities available to them which in turn have a positive impact on the young people they look after. We really value our foster carers in Warwickshire and thank them for helping us to achieve this award.”

Cllr Dave Parsons, Chair of the Children & Young People Overview & Scrutiny Committee, added: “We are very proud of our fostering service in Warwickshire and I am thrilled that all their hard work has been recognised for another year.”

WCC have helped foster carers from other fostering agencies attain their QCF Award. Please contact Lynn Rowlston QCF Manager on 01926 743086 for further information.
