Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and key partners met on Thursday 16 February to discuss the future of sexual health service, Health Store, which is based at Hatters Space Community Centre in Nuneaton.
Health Store at Hatters Space, Nuneaton, is a key service for young people living in Nuneaton and Bedworth, providing a range of services, including support with emotional issues, contraception, pregnancy testing, and help and advice on accessing other useful services.
Key partners agreed to jointly fund the sexual health service in a bid to ensure the service continues to support young people living in Nuneaton and Bedworth. Partners include WCC Public Health, WCC Transitions Children and Families, NHS Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council.
The organisations involved plan to agree and identify longer term funding as part of the work identified by partners who are committed to making sure that these essential services continue.
Cllr Les Caborn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health, said:
“I’m delighted that we are able to find the funding with partners to ensure sexual health services for young people in Nuneaton and Bedworth continue to be provided.”
Cllr Alan Webb, Warwickshire County Council’s Chair of the Adults, Social Care and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee added:
“We welcome this funding to enable this key service to continue in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area.”
Andrea Green, Chief Officer for NHS Warwickshire North CCG stated:
“We examined the evidence and challenges for local young people at the Teenage Pregnancy Summit held by our Health and Wellbeing Partnership in November. We really need to do more to help young people make the best decisions at this time in their life, and agreed collective action to improve this together. It is quite clear that young people really value the support and advice provided by the team at Hatters Space, and we know getting the right help can prevent a range of future health problems. I am delighted we can help.”
