Three kickboxers from The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College have qualified to represent England at the World Martial Arts Organisation’s World Championships which will be held in Dublin, Ireland, in October 2017.
Last year Katelyn Bateman a Year 11 student and Bobby Brannen a Year 8 student qualified to compete in the world championships which were held in Spain. This year they will be joined by Year 7 student Cameron Mac who has already qualified for the third World Championships. A fourth student, Year 9 Liam Radburn, may also join them if he is successful in the European championships which are being held in May 2017.
The students who regularly spend 6-8 hours per week training at G-Force Martial Arts, Rugby, are now looking for businesses, organisations or individuals who might be willing to help them compete by offering sponsorship. To compete at the championships the youngsters will each need to raise funds for a fighting suit, tracksuit, flights, accommodation, category entry fees and insurance.
Parent, Ronnie Brannen, said:
“As parents we are very proud of their achievements and we’re very proud that they’ll be representing England. They must all now continue to work hard in training so that they are fit and ready for the competition in Dublin.”
“We would love to hear from anyone who can help with sponsorship which will enable Bobby, Katelyn, Cameron and Liam to compete in Ireland in October.”
Alison Davies, Headteacher, said,
“It is great to see that these students have earned the right to compete on a world stage in their chosen sport. To compete at this level takes a lot of time and dedication; as a school we are very proud of their achievements and wish them all the best for the world championships in October.”
