A444 WEDDINGTON ROAD, NUNEATON PLANNED ROAD CLOSURE FROM 24TH JULY 2017 FOR FOUR WEEKS
Warwickshire County Council wish to give advance notice of a forthcoming road closure on the A444 Weddington Road, Nuneaton, between Church Lane and Lower Farm Way between 24th July 2017 and 20th August 2017. The works are required to enable a new sewer connection for the Barratt Homes residential development site and for road resurfacing. The sewer works involves cutting a large trench in the middle of the road as it cannot be accommodated within the existing footway due to the presence of other cables and pipes and also tree roots.
The sewer connection and resurfacing works, which will be undertaken by contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Limited, are due to commence on 24th July. The works are being managed on site by Warwickshire County Council (Design Services) and are due to finish by 20th August.
Due to the extensive nature of the works, a road closure is unavoidable but has been planned to take place in the school holidays. Disruption will be inevitable on Weddington Road as well as on the diversion route, which is via the A47 (Hinckley Road and The Long Shoot) and the A5 (Watling Street). High-sided vehicles will be diverted via the A4254 and the A444 south of Nuneaton to avoid the height restriction imposed by the railway bridge on Hinckley Road. Traffic signs warning motorists of the forthcoming closure will be erected at least 2 weeks before the start date. All diversion routes will be clearly signed and information on the closure can be found on warwickshire.gov.uk/roadworksmap.
Warwickshire County Council would like to apologise in advance to residents, businesses and the travelling public for the disruption this closure will cause. We have worked with the Contractor to plan the work so that delays can be kept to a minimum and hope that the road closure can be lifted earlier than planned.
