On Friday 14th July the students in year 7, 8 and 9 at The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College took part in a series of different events and activities to celebrate the end of the academic year during the final splash day of the year.
For many years the school has, throughout the year, held splash days to give the students opportunity to work as teams, build confidence and experience new activities. During splash days the normal school timetable is collapsed allowing students, and staff, to work with others they do not normally get the chance to work with.
The final splash day gave the students chance to opt for an activity of their choice. Some of the activities on offer included a visit to the UK’s biggest inflatable aqua park in Rutland, indoor trampolining at Jump in Leamington Spa, laser quest, a military mud run in Dunchurch, tobogganing at Tamworth’s Snowdome, cupcake decorating and sculpture making in school, a mile Rugby Ramble, and a day at the Butterfly Farm in Stratford Upon Avon that also included a boat ride down the River Avon.
Renata Bartha, a year 9 student who went on the Stratford trip said “It was one of the best trips ever and there were lots of colourful butterflies everywhere.”
Year 7 student Ella-May Reesby who took part in the Mud Run said “I really enjoyed the day, even though it was very cold and muddy we still had a good time!”
The day was organised by, Achievement Leader, Carole Labreize who was thrilled with the response to the activities. “The day went really well and all the students had a great time. Their feedback was really positive and they were excellent ambassadors for our school.”
Alison Davies, Headteacher commented:
“Splash days are a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience new activities; these are days that the students always remember. This year’s activity day was a lovely way to round off what has been a very successful year for our school.”
