This exciting role can be performed alongside any current career in agreement with your employer or performed outside of your normal working hours. The work attracts an annual retainer payment and an hourly wage when undertaking operational duties.
Although not based on fire stations, retained firefighters usually live or work in their local community and carry a pager, so when they get the call, they are ready to respond to any emergency.
Currently, there are over 100 retained firefighters in Warwickshire, working as part of a winning team to keep our communities safer. However, many more are needed, to provide cover at our retained stations during the day, nights and weekends.
Applications are now open, so don’t delay, get yours in today!
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Retained Duty Systems Liaison Officer, Keith Mc Dermott said:
“Atherstone Fire Station is situated right in the heart of Atherstone and our retained firefighters play a vital role in keeping both residents and businesses safer. In order to be able to provide the cover required to maintain the level of service currently provided, we need more people to come forward to provide cover, particularly in the daytime and at the weekends.
“We are looking to recruit people from all walks of life. No previous experience is needed, but common sense, self-motivation, compassion and the ability to work as part of a team is essential. You must also live or work within five minutes travel time of the fire station and be over 18.
“The job is challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding careers you will ever have!”
Warwickshire County Councillor Howard Roberts, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety said:
“Being a retained firefighter means that you will not only play a crucial role within your local community, but you also provide an operational response across the county, as part of a team ready to respond to any call.
“If you are considering becoming a retained firefighter or if you are a local business thinking about releasing staff, then there is no better time to step forward and find out what it would mean for you and your business!”
If you think that you have what it takes to be part of a winning team, then why not pop along to our recruitment evening at Atherstone Fire Station on Wednesday 22 November 2017 from 7.30 to 9.30pm and speak to a member of the team.
