Warwickshire residents are reminded that the Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme is a fund available to assist families and individuals who are struggling financially this Christmas.
Are you struggling to make ends meet this festive period? Do you have no other means of financial support? If you are a Warwickshire resident, the Local Welfare Scheme might be able to help you.
The Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme helps the most vulnerable residents at times of unavoidable crisis when they have no other means of help. It does this by providing basic and essential help for food and energy. This is provided either in emergency food parcels with three days supplies, or with credit for energy.
The scheme also provides help to those whose needs are more long term, who are vulnerable through an ongoing set of circumstances rather than an immediate crisis. This could include people that are care leavers, victims of domestic violence, former armed forces personnel, or those resettling in a community after a custodial term. In these cases, the help may take the form of assistance in furnishing accommodation with basic furniture and appliances.
The Local Welfare Scheme also serves to point residents in the direction of other agencies and organisations who may be able to offer help and support to them.
Cllr Kam Kaur, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, said:
“Protecting the most vulnerable in our communities is a key priority for Warwickshire County Council and something that all our elected members in the county are passionate about.
“With current levels of fuel poverty, that have recently been reported nationally, Council has taken the important decision to increase the number of fuel awards to 3 in a 12 month period so that it is similar to food awards given through the scheme.
“In addition to this, the Summer Scheme Support, which is specifically for families in crisis, has been extended to cover the Christmas school holiday (from Friday 22/12/17 to January 08/01/18.) The Scheme will run from the week leading up to the school break – ie 18/12/17, until Friday 05/01/18, this would be for a 11 day period taking into account the Christmas and New Year break.”
