Warwickshire County Council is helping people to achieve their New Year goals through their innovative health improvement programme ‘Fitter Futures Warwickshire’. Fitter Futures provides confidential and supportive services to help people become fitter, stay well, feel good and lose weight if they want to! The new film launched today features just some of the more than 10,000 people who have been referred since its launch in 2015.
Fitter Futures aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Warwickshire through 4 key services:
- Discounted 12 week physical activity and healthy lifestyle referral programmes for young people aged 12-16 and adults aged 16+
- Free 12 week weight management referral programmes for young people aged 12-16 and adults aged 16+
- Free 9 week family weight management programmes for families with children who are overweight aged 4-12
- Healthy lifestyle information for families with children aged 0-5
Cllr Les Caborn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health, said: “Since the launch of Fitter Futures, it has been incredible to hear the stories of people whose lives have been transformed. By leading more active and healthy lifestyles people have seen many benefits including more energy and reduced need for medication. We would like to see all providers referring people to it and the wide range of services on offer.
“Supporting people to lose weight and increase physical activity levels as well as improve overall health are areas we need to tackle in all areas of Warwickshire and across all age groups.”
Warwickshire County Council has appointed 4 organisations including Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Trust, Slimming World, Change Makers and George Eliot Hospital to deliver these support programmes along with local leisure centres and facilities. Referrals can be made directly by a health or social care professional or pharmacy.
