Crews from Bedworth, Nuneaton and an appliance from Foleshill responded to a house fire in Ash Green this morning.
On arrival crews were met by the two occupants, who were already outside the property. Luckily their smoke alarms had woken them up and they were able to get out of the property safely. Due to the severity of the smoke, the residents were given oxygen therapy by our crews, until the Ambulance service arrived.
The fire was started in a dish washer in the kitchen.
On this occasion the residents were very lucky. Had they not had smoke detectors fitted, we could well be looking at a different story now. You will see from the photos how quickly the fire spread and the difference shutting internal doors at night can make to containing a fire, giving you enough time to get out, stay out and call 999!
So please take our advice and ensure that you have working smoke alarms in place and that you have a fire safe bedtime routine, where you unplug electrical items such as dishwashers and tumble dryers and close all internal doors. It really could be the difference between getting out alive or not!
