Following the Government’s commitment to redesign Adoption Services across the country, the local authorities of Coventry, Solihull , Warwickshire and Worcestershire have been working together to set up a new regional adoption agency called Adoption Central England (ACE) from 1 February 2018.
Warwickshire County Council will be hosting the new regional adoption agency that will be actively recruiting adoptive families for a wide range of children from across the region. It is recognised that adoption for children of any age can provide the best outcomes for those children who cannot remain with their families.
ACE is dedicated to providing support for young people or adults who have been adopted, birth families, new and existing adopters and step parents.
The bringing together of the four adoption services will also provide opportunities to increase the range of services for adoptive families in the region. ACE will provide:
• advice and information
• regular support groups for adopters
• workshops and training on topics of interest
• services in relation to therapeutic needs of a child
• the Adopter’s Mentoring Service
• packages of therapeutic intervention or parenting support
Anyone can be considered as potential adopters providing they are over 21 years. It doesn’t matter whether you are married or single, in or out of work, or whatever your race, religion or sexuality. But you will need plenty of patience, humour and energy. Most importantly, you need to be determined to give a child or children the sort of support that will really make a difference to their lives.
ACE have a wide range of children who need a loving permanent adoptive home, they include babies to 10 year olds, sibling groups and children with a level of disability and those of minority ethnic backgrounds.
Cllr Jeff Morgan, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at Warwickshire County Council, said “The launch of Adoption Central England will allow us to improve support for our children in care, by providing them with a permanent adoptive home and maintaining this support on a long term basis. I urge anyone interested in adopting to contact ACE and find out more.”
Anyone interested in adoption can visit the ACE website: aceadoption.com or call the central Adoption Hub on 0300 369 0556 where an adoption social worker can answer your queries and provide you with more information about what adoption involves.
A full programme of Information Sessions for people thinking about adopting will also be held across the region and details are available through ACE.
