Primary school pupils across Warwickshire will enjoy eating some brand new lunches this week (w/c Monday 14th May), including some new vegetarian options, as school caterers ‘Educaterers’ launch a new menu to coincide with National Vegetarian Week.
The three-week rotating menu features some great vegetarian options including a new vegan Organic Three Bean Chilli, Veggie Toad in the Hole, Vegetable and Lentil Korma, Linda McCartney Veggie Sausages with Crispy Diced Potatoes and Veggie Hot Dogs.
Pupils have a choice of either a vegetarian or meat option every day, with lots of traditional favourites on the menu such as Roast Dinner Day every Wednesday, a fish choice every Friday, such as Harry Ramsden’s Seaside Fish Fillet, and Organic Pork Meatballs.
There’s also a daily ‘deli’ choice of sandwiches, wraps or soft baps, a filled jacket potato choice, and delicious desserts including organic yoghurts, fruit bags and homemade cakes and cookies.
The menu fully meets School Food Standards and The Soil Association’s Silver Food for Life standard, which Educaterers have been awarded.
Terry Tredget, Director of Catering at Educaterers said: “We’re excited to be able to launch our new menu for primary school pupils in National Vegetarian Week, with lots of new vegan and vegetarian options.
“The vegetables we use are mostly sourced from the UK to help minimise fuel emissions from transportation and to support UK producers, and we focus on using seasonal vegetables throughout the year.
“Today’s school meals are nourishing, delicious and great value for parents. Families can be certain that school lunches are far from being convenience food and can help contribute to your children’s wellbeing, education and happiness.”
The Educaterers service, who took over delivery of school meals from Warwickshire County Council in September, provides over 120,000 meals a week to school children across the county. For more information on Educaterers, including their school menus and current vacancies, see www.educaterers.co.uk.
National Vegetarian Week 2018 runs from 14th to 20th May and is all about eating delicious and exciting veggie food. See www.nationalvegetarianweek.org for more information.
