Warwickshire County Council will be carrying out works to Rugby Library from 3rd September. The works will lead to a much improved use of space within the building. There will be as much library shelving and room for computers as before but the layout will be reconfigured to offer customers more space in the children’s and study areas.
The work will commence on Monday 3rd September with the main service closed to the public until Monday 24th September. A limited loan service will run from 3rd September until Tuesday 18th September during which children’s books and collections of adult fiction including: crime, family sagas, large print books and talking books will be available for loan. Although most of adult non-fiction will not be available to loan due to space constraints this can be reserved by customers free of charge.
No library item will be due for return during the period between Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23rd September when the library will be closed to the public. Any item due on one of these dates will have its return date pushed back to Monday 24th September at the earliest. Those customers who choose to renew ‘hired’ items (DVD/Bluray or Talking Book) will pay the normal additional hire charge but due dates will be adjusted to avoid the closure period if necessary.
Whilst the works are being undertaken only the Code Club for children aged 9 – 11 (Tuesdays, 16:00 – 17:00 during term time only) and Knitting Group (Mondays, 10:00 – 12:00) will take place.
Cllr Kam Kaur, Portfolio Holder for Customer and Transformation said:
“It’s now 18 years since the library was built. So much has changed in that time in terms of what people are looking for from a library and the current remodelling work will create a space to meet the ever-evolving needs of all of our customers.
“It will have an attractive look with a better use of space for our users.
“We know how much the public values Rugby Library and we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this work.”
Whilst the works are taking place customers can use other libraries and library books can be returned to any other Warwickshire Library. Details of libraries and opening times can be found here:www.warwickshire.gov.uk/findalibrary. Books can be renewed online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries or by phone on 01926 499273.
There is a drop box available at Rugby Library and books can be returned there. The drop box can be found on the right hand side of the building, near Percival Guildhouse Gardens.
