The Highwayman will once again be galloping into Coleshill in the form of a newly created piece of art for the town. Based on folklore stories in the town, the piece was one of four possible themes which were voted for by the public as part of a Spacehive crowdfunding campaign and will be unveiled at a Family Fun day on Saturday 22nd September.
As part of a project called ‘CASPER’ – Coleshill Art Space Project – Everyone Respects’ the art piece will be located opposite the Town Hall, and is part of wider programme of trails and heritage tours to help encourage more visitors to the town.
A total of £24,000.00 was raised through a Civic Crowdfunding Platform called ‘Spacehive’ where it received a £12k boost from the ‘Warwickshire Placemaking Fund’. The fund, provided by Warwickshire County Council as part of its Town Centres support package, is for projects aimed at enhancing and supporting Towns across Warwickshire.
Cllr. Tony Battle, Mayor of Coleshill, who chaired the group on the campaign, said: “We had some fun debates and discussions with the crowd during the fundraising campaign. It was great to see how the community and businesses got behind the project, and have continued to do so, in order to make this happen – it was brilliant”
In way of celebration and to say thank you to everyone in the town, who pledged towards the project a family fun day is being held on the 22nd September. Businesses and the Community have come together to help create a day of demonstrations, displays and tours around the town – all based upon the original themes which people voted for during the Spacehive Campaign.
Councillor Izzi Seccombe, Leader of Warwickshire County Council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, said: “After all the excitement of the fundraising it’s fantastic to see the first scheme we helped support come to fruition. The project has embraced the community and spurred lots of other activity such as the creation of the heritage trails. Using the power of the crowd through Spacehive really shows how people can support their town in lots of different ways – through pledges of time, money, materials or simply visiting the town and shouting about its good points.”
Spacehive is a civic crowdfunding platform that encourages community engagement and gives people the opportunity to raise funds for projects within their area. It connects great project ideas to the people, local authorities, businesses and grant-makers ready and willing to fund them.
