Warwickshire County Council celebrated the achievements of foster parents while also giving them the chance to attend workshops and share experiences at the annual ‘Supporting our Children’ conference held last week (Thursday 20 September).
Warwickshire County Council oversees the fostering process of more than 700 children across the county. It holds an annual conference to celebrate and support its foster carers while also giving them access to professional experts.
The event, held at Ryton Sports Connexion, included advice-led presentations and workshops, Q&As and discussions to provide foster parents with the opportunity to gain and share knowledge.
Topics of workshops included: caring for carers, connecting with your child and child sexual exploitation, what it is and how it affects children.
A prize draw was held with donations from local and national businesses, with lucky winners receiving prizes including concert tickets, family swim sessions and dinner vouchers.
Jeff Morgan, Portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Warwickshire County Council said: “We’re committed to ensuring that the children and young people we look after are safe, secure and happy – this includes making sure parents have the knowledge and tools to create the right environment.
“Our annual conference not only allows us to provide foster carers with the tools they need but also to celebrate their achievements. It gives them the opportunity to meet fellow foster carers and build a supportive community.”
