Educaterers staff raise over £460 for Leamington Night Shelter

Staff working for Warwickshire-based school caterers, Educaterers, have donated a cheque to Leamington Night Shelter after raising £464.30 through ticket sales for a prize raffle.

The cheque was handed over to Margaret Moore and Chris Johnson, co-founders of Leamington Night Shelter at Educaterers’ headquarters in Warwick by Tracy Hughes and Hazel Prescott of Educaterers, who organised the raffle. Prizes were donated by Educaterers’ suppliers.

Leamington Night Shelter has just celebrated its 10 year anniversary and operates at the Radford Road Church in Leamington.

It is open two nights a week, on Sunday and Wednesday nights, from 9pm, offering a hot meal, company and a place to sleep for rough sleepers and other vulnerable people. On average, around 25 to 30 people visit the shelter and of those about 8 people stay overnight each night they are open.

The charity is funded solely by donations and money such as that gifted by Educaterers is used to buy food, toiletries and provide security at the shelter. Last year, 390 different people used the shelter’s facilities, with 86 of those being rough sleepers.

Margaret Moore of Leamington Night Shelter said: “We are both very thankful for this donation as it helps us to provide for the needs of the homeless and needy people who come along to us.”

Terry Tredget, Director of Educaterers, said: “We’ve run a number of small fundraising events, including this one, which raised over £460 and I’m proud of our staff for raising this wonderful sum of money for a fantastic charity.

“I’m grateful to Margaret and Chris for visiting us to explain where the money will go and how it will be used to help vulnerable and homeless people in our local community.”

Warwickshire-based Educaterers launched in September 2017, taking over the delivery of school meals from Warwickshire County Caterers. They provide over 120,000 school meals every week to over 200 schools across Warwickshire, Birmingham and Oxfordshire.
