Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service received the first of nine 999 calls at 20:05 on Tuesday 6th November reporting a lorry fire on the M42 motorway between Junctions 3 and 3a Northbound. Two fire engines, one from Henley-in-Arden and one from Coleshill were initially mobilised along with a Water Carrier from Leamington. Two further crews attended the incident to assist with further water supplies, these were from Kings Norton and Solihull.
The incident involved an articulated lorry carrying mixed pallets which was 100% involved in fire on the hard shoulder. Firefighters have used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Crews have been using nearby fire hydrants in the Wythall area to shuttle water to the fire.
Fire crews are still in attendance at 00:00 working alongside a recovery company to clear the vehicle and damp down hot spots.
