80 venues in Warwickshire support Heritage Open Days

Everything from an 18th century Quaker Meeting House through to a Sikh Gurdwara temple will be throwing open their doors next week to welcome visitors as part of the Heritage Open Days 2011.

More than 80 different heritage buildings around Warwickshire are to open their doors to the public for free as part of the open days from September 8-11.

From behind the scenes glimpses of hidden places to special tours of towns, areas and buildings, local people will be able to revel in experiencing often unseen treasures in Warwickshire – and all for free.

Tiny museums like Marton’s recently revived Museum of Country Bygones are taking part as well as established sites like Mary Arden’s house. There are schools, masonic lodges, tree walks, canal and pumping stations. All open for free.

Glynis Powell, the Community Museums Officer for Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull, said: “Heritage Open Days not only focus the visiting public’s mind, but they also show just how many heritage volunteers there are supporting, protecting  and sharing.”
