County’s first honesty library opens

Bedworth Heath Community Centre is to be the home of the first community library of its kind in the county when the Honesty Library opens on February 1.

The honesty library will open after the management of Bedworth Heath Library has been transferred from the council with its last operating day being 25 January.  The honesty library will join Bedworth Library, which will continue to be managed by the county council, serving Bedworth residents.

A stock of 1500 books will be placed in shelves in the community centre for residents to borrow.  These will comprise children’s books, adult fiction and non-fiction.

Cllr Colin Hayfield, portfolio holder for customers, access and physical assets said:  “Bedworth Heath Honesty Library has the potential to be a very good supplement to Bedworth Library for local people and ensures that they have access to books in their locality.  There will be a large number of books of various types.

“Its success is dependent on its users.  We would urge residents to use the facility, enjoy the books but to make sure that they are put back into the centre so that others can also get the benefit of the wide range that will still be available.”

The new library opening hours of Bedworth Library were decided after the extensive public consultation on what times suited customers best.  Details of the opening hours of all Warwickshire’s libraries are available at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries or at all libraries across Warwickshire.
