Specialist support for carers rolled out across Warwickshire GPs

Carers across Warwickshire now have better access than ever to the Carer Wellbeing Service as clinics are being rolled out to local neighbourhoods across the county.

Warwickshire County Council commissions a Warwickshire Carer Wellbeing Service that is delivered close to and within communities; ensuring the support offered is tailored to local needs, builds upon local assets, and is integrated with local health and community services. It was launched in June 2017 and is provided by Carers Trust Heart of England on behalf of WCC.

WCC is now seeking to embed the service offer within all Warwickshire GP surgeries. This includes the appointment of a named, local Carer Wellbeing Worker connected to each surgery who will support early identification of those undertaking caring roles and work closely with them to make sure they get the support they need.

As well as establishing named Carer Wellbeing Workers, WCC will establish a Carers Corner in every GP surgery – a designated area containing information for carers and contact details/referral methods for Warwickshire Carer Wellbeing Service. Additionally, carers clinics will be established in or near GP surgeries – a regular drop in session to provide an opportunity for a carer to speak to their local Carer Wellbeing Worker.

To date the service have established Carer Clinics in 30 GP surgeries and community venues and have Carers Corners set up in 30% of all Warwickshire GP Surgeries.

Councillor Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are very keen to continue raising awareness of the Warwickshire Carers Wellbeing Service and welcome all opportunities to link the service to GP Surgeries and local community venues and activities. If you are a carer, please get in touch with the service and start accessing the support you deserve.”
