Walk and Talk about Direct Payments!

Nuneaton and Bedworth borough residents that receive Direct Payments are invited to the launch of a fun, new and relaxing way to find out more about how their payments can be used in the community.

A free ‘Walk and Talk about Direct Payments’ event will be happening on Tuesday 16th July, setting off from Stockingford Community Centre on Haunchwood Road, Nuneaton, CV10 8DY at 11.30am.

The information sharing walk, which will take around an hour, will give people the chance to talk to community organisations and to Warwickshire County Council representatives to get ideas on how they could use their Direct Payments to pay for things that will improve their lives.

The ‘peer support’ event will also be a good opportunity to speak to other people who receive Direct Payments to get ideas from them.

After the walk, there will be a free lunch at Stockingford Community Centre followed by an afternoon of workshops and activities from 1pm to 4pm where people can talk more to local community groups that accept Direct Payments and find out what is happening in their local area.

There will also be information on important subjects like how to keep yourself safe when using your Direct Payments, how you can pay for a Personal Assistant and how to get a new Direct Payments pre-paid card.

It will also be an opportunity to give your reactions and responses on how Direct Payments are working for you.

Councillor Les Caborn, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health at Warwickshire County Council, said: “I would encourage anyone who lives in Nuneaton and Bedworth borough that receives Direct Payments from Warwickshire County Council to come along to this ‘peer support’ event. It will be fun, it will give you lots of information and it is free.

“Your involvement will be very important to the event’s success and there will be a range of subjects for you to find out about, from how to use your Direct Payments in the community to what you need to know about employing a Personal Assistant.”

Anyone that wants more information and to reserve a free space, including a free lunch, should contact Warwickshire County Council’s Independent Living Team on 01926 413908 or email ilt@warwickshire.gov.uk.
