You can now earn rewards for walking, cycling or using public transport in Leamington thanks to a new app-based rewards programme, ‘Choose How You Move Leamington Spa’ powered by BetterPoints, a behaviour change platform.
Delivered by Warwick District Council and BetterPoints in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, the programme aims to encourage anyone who lives, works, shops in or visits Leamington Spa to log their green travel in return for BetterPoints that are redeemable on the high street, or can be donated to charity.
The BetterPoints app is available for free download now on Android and OS and the Choose How You Move Leamington programme will be available for an initial period of four months.
The launch of the scheme coincided with Green Transport Week, a weeklong celebration of sustainable and alternative transport and throughout the programme participants can use the Choose How You Move journey planner, developed by Warwickshire County Council, to plan their sustainable travel.
Additionally, the programme seeks to support the aims of Coventry and Warwickshire’s Year of Wellbeing partnership with those taking part in the scheme also benefitting from a boost to their health and fitness by monitoring their levels of physical activity through the app, even earning virtual medals as they hit their fitness and travel milestones.
Councillor Les Caborn, portfolio holder for Adult social care and health at Warwickshire County Council added:
“We are proud to be working with Warwick District Council, encouraging residents to review how they travel and to take up more active travel options, helping to improve their health and wellbeing, earning points and rewards as they do.
“This is part of our ‘Choose How You Move’ campaign across Coventry and Warwickshire, providing residents with advice and information and encouraging them to choose alternative, more active and environmentally friendly travel options, even for just one day a week, or one or two short trips a week.

Councillor Judy Falp, Portfolio Holder for Health & Community Protection, said:
“This valuable scheme enables visitors to Leamington the chance to earn rewards to spend in some of the town’s best shops, simply by choosing a greener and more sustainable form of transport.
“Management of air quality is a priority for Warwick District Council and one of the primary aims of this programme is to try and reduce harmful emissions in Leamington by encouraging visitors, where possible, to reduce the number of trips they make by car.”
