Get online with Warwickshire County Council

Next week as part of Get Online Week 2019 Leamington College and libraries across Warwickshire will be encouraging people to find out how getting online can change their lives.

Online safety sessions will be run by Warwickshire County Council Cyber Safety Officers as drop ins for the public in eight libraries across the county. At the college an eResources event will involve a presentation to students about the council’s online resources, including how to download eBooks, magazines and newspapers, and their new digital technology offer called Let’s Make. Let’s Make spaces, which can be found at Leamington Spa, Nuneaton and Rugby libraries, offer a range of inspiring digital activities which include virtual and augmented reality robotics, programming, 3D design, printing and film making

According to Good Things Foundation, the social change charity behind Get Online Week, 5.3 million people have never been online in the UK and there are 11.9 million people who do not have the essential digital skills to navigate life and work.

Cllr Kam Kaur Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customer and Transformation said:

“As part of our new council plan we are committed to supporting communities and businesses to develop the digital skills they need in an increasingly digital economy.

“Employment growth is on the rise across Warwickshire and we see no evidence to suggest this will stop. We must ensure our current resident workforce has the skills in place to meet the needs of our growing businesses.”

She added:

“Not only are we keen to support our younger residents, for example through supporting the development of the vital computer programming skills in Warwickshire’s primary and secondary schools, we are also here to guide our older residents about how to get online and access the many services available to them.”
