Female rescued from river – Leicester Road, Rugby

At 20:20 hours on 30.6.16, a call was received in the Emergency Control Room of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service by Warwickshire Police to assist in rescuing a female who had thrown herself into the river at the rear of Tescos on Leicester Road, Rugby.  Two fire engines with specialist water rescue equipment for Rugby Fire Station were mobilised.  Upon arrival, fire fighters, Ambulance crews and Police, including the Police helicopter were involved in trying to locate the female.  She was eventually found caught in undergrowth near the weir and rescued by fire fighters using wet suits and water resuce equipment .  She was given over to the care of Warwickshire Police and Ambulance.  Crews were detained for two and a half hours.
