At 19:39, Service Control received the first of 21 emergency 999 calls reporting a vehicle fire on the M69 motorway. Two fire engines from Nuneaton attended and located a car, which was well alight. The vehicle was on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between the Hinckley junction and the M6. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used water from a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The Highways Agency also attended and crews were committed for 30 minutes bringing the fire under control.
